#SanMigueldeAllendewas founded in 1542 by the missionary Juan de San Miguel who gave it the name of San Miguel el Grande in honor of his devotion to the Archangel Michael. Already for the year 1826 and in honor of one of the most renowned heroes of the independence war «Ignacio Allende» the city takes its current name of San Miguel Allende.
